Setting up email with Mozilla Thunderbird

Create a New Account

Complete the New Account Setup Wizard

  1. Select Email account in the dialog that appears and press "Next".

  2. Enter your name in the Your Name: field and your email address in the Email Address: field and press "Next".

  3. You are presented with a choice of incoming mail servers, POP and IMAP. arcplasma.com mail servers support both mail server types. If you don't know which one to choose, choose POP. Enter mail.arcplasma.com in the Incoming server: field. Using POP, you have the option of storing all messages from multiple accounts into a single folder. If you do not want this, untick the Use Global Inbox checkbox.
    • If this is the first account you have ever created in Thunderbird, you will be promted to enter an Outgoing Server:. Enter mail.arcplasma.com here.

    • If you are not prompted to enter an Outgoing Server:, Thunderbird will show you the current default. Ensure this is mail.arcplasma.com. If not, review Appendix A.

  4. In the next step of the wizard, enter your full email address in the Incoming User Name: field.

  5. Enter something descriptive in the Account Name: field. The default usually suffices.

  6. Review the information displayed on the next step. Untick the Download messages now checkbox!

Enable SSL

  1. Select Edit > Account Settings... (if you are on Linux) or Tools > Account Settings... (if you are on Windows) from the menubar at the top of the screen.

  2. You will see a dialog with a tree view of accounts on the left. Find the branch of the tree labled the same as the account you just created. Click the leaf Server Settings. In the Security Settings fieldset, choose the SSL option for Use secure connection:. DO NOT tick the checkbox for Use secure authentication.

  3. Again in the tree view at the left, select the node entitled Outgoing Server (SMTP). A list box containing SMTP servers should appear to the right. If more than one item is present in this list, see Appendix A. Otherwise, click the "Edit" button.

  4. A dialog will appear, promting for SMTP Server settings. Enter a description if you wish, but this is not required. Ensure the Use name and password checkbox is ticked. Enter your entire email address in the User Name: field. Choose the TLS option for Use secure connection:. Click "OK". Click "OK".

  5. On the toolbar, there is a button labled Get Mail. Press the small arrow just to the right of this button and select Get All New Messages. Enter your password in the password prompt and tick the checkbox labled Use Password Manager to remember this password if you desire.

  6. You should receive a message from the arcplasma.com Postmaster congratulating you on setting up your email client if this is the first time you have ever set up an email client.

Appendix A — Using multiple SMTP servers.

arcplasma.com does not recommend using multiple outgoing (SMTP) servers, but if you have one or more email accounts with providers other than arcplasma.com, you will need to setup an additional SMTP server to send mail with your arcplasma.com email address.
  1. Perform steps 3.1 — 3.3 above to access the Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings.
  2. Click the "Add" button to create a new entry in the list.
  3. Enter mail.arcplasma.com in the Server Name: field. Adjust the other settings according to step 3.4.
  4. From the tree view to the left, find your arcplasma.com email acount and click it.
  5. Choose from the dropdown box labeled Outgoing Server (SMTP) the newly created SMTP server for your arcplasma.com email address.
